Washrooms can accumulate high levels of airborne microorganisms. With every flush, toilets and urinals can push fine droplets into the air which then settle around the room. Poor ventilation, shared facilities and inconsistent handwashing all contribute to poor washroom conditions.

Unpleasant smells are created by bacteria, viruses, mould, fungi and volatile organic compounds in the air. Regular cleaning, disinfecting and use of masking agents help for a short time but cannot address all of the airborne compounds that build up between visits. In just 8 hours a single bacteria cell could multiply to more than 8 million, which helps explain why smells and air quality issues often return quickly*.

AIRsteril washroom systems treat air continuously, reducing airborne microorganisms inside the internal chamber and breaking down odour causing compounds before clean air is circulated back into the room. This helps maintain fresher, cleaner smelling conditions throughout busy washroom areas.

How Our Washroom Systems Work

AIRsteril washroom units use a combination of germicidal ultraviolet energy and advanced oxidation to improve air quality throughout the facility. A built in fan draws contaminated air into an internal chamber where airborne microorganisms are destroyed and odour causing compounds are broken down. Treated air is then circulated back into the washroom to help manage the smells and airborne contaminants that build up in busy facilities.

The system is designed to maximise dwell time in the purifying chamber so the air spends long enough in contact with the internal components for effective treatment. As the treated air leaves the unit it disperses through the space and continues to influence the overall quality of the air in the room, all with low energy consumption and minimal maintenance.

*Certain bacteria such as E. coli can replicate every 20 minutes, which in theory could result in very high numbers within 8 hours. This highlights how quickly contamination in the air can build between standard cleaning routines.
